Hey Guys,
I have a website that I did for a friend which I have optimised and it appears in the top 3 of Google for it's keywords. It contains a number of images, but no matter what I search on (even the name of the file) they do not show up in the Google image search. Anyone got any ideas on how to get them appearing. Thanks Paul |

Sorry to state the obvious but just in-case:
1) Have a couple of keywords in the file name. 2) Have a user friendly alt tag also inc. keyword. 3) Include a title tag, again user friendly as it's your tool tip. 4) Have a longdesc tag, this is very good for usability. I have no idea if G actually uses these tags. Try it and let us all know the results. HTH |

Hey Renagade Master,
The images file names all contain variations of my keywords that are relevant to image. The alt tag is populated with keyword descriptive text for non-image broweser users. In regard to the title and description tag, do you mean for the image or the page, if for the page I have them and they are geared to the right keywords. Cheers Paul |

Sorry I should have said title *attribute* it's a new standard attrib available for many tags. See http://www.w3schools.com/tags/standardattributes.asp
The longdesc attribute is part of the img tag. See http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_img.asp |

Google uses a separate spider for the image search, and it doesn't come around very often. Most likely the reason your images aren't showing up is that imagebot just hasn't crawled the site.
I have a site with a lot of images, many of which were changed 4 or 5 months ago. Image searches on Google, Yahoo and AltaVista are still listing the old images. |

Just curious...why do you want them to show up in an image search?
Aren't people who use that just looking to steal images anyway? |

"steal" is such a harsh word, Jill. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) There are lots and lots of legitimate uses for it. I know I help my girlfriend find specific images all the time for her term papers and such.
Besides, I know I and some of my friends have found some really cool sites (and passed them on to others) while trolling google for specific images. It's all about thinking you can entice people with specific images and then get something out of them. |

I have never used Google Image search for that purpose, Officer Jill. :halo: I still think it's a good way of brining people into your site, because it has worked on me! Thanks Paul don't worry about Google image search. I started loosing rankins for my site in January . I rank highly in Google image search for the same key words. I get a lot of traffic from image search. I have never had a buyer as far as I can tell from the image search. By the way JFYI Google hotlinks the enlarged image. Yahoo hotlinks all images in their image search. Be glad you have rankins in the normal search. I think Jill is probably right. People doing an image search are looking for the image. They are not looking for the product. Just my (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/penny.gif) which isn't worth a lot. I have a mate with a dog site, and he gets loads of useful traffic from image searches. So in some cases I suppose it can help. By and large though I have to go with thieving horrible image searching trolls (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/Whip.gif)

I can't say for certain that the images adds are not helpful. I have about 30% of buyers that I can't track so possibly a few of those came from the image search. Personally I would rather have my rankings back in the normal search than the image search. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/cheers.gif) |

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all your replies. The site is for my girlfriend who is an actress. The more see is seen the better, hence the wish to get her on the image results for Google, although since I have spent so much time looking at pictures of her building the site I don't think I can bear to see them popping up on Google all over the place..it may just drive me mad!!! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) Thanks Paul |

Assuming her name is the site's domain name, make sure you put the domain name in a watermark on all the images. That way, when someone steals it and posts it on some "babe site" (they're all over the place, believe me), at least the audience there will know where to go to see more.
