Hi Evan2all, welcome (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)

ranked on Google for what? if the phrase has no competition then it will take very little to rank.

Backlinks are link that point back to your site, like the one I just removed :-) also called IBL's inbound links.

To get them simply contact webmasters of sites that are related to yours and point out the benefit of them linking to you. Submit your site to all available directories, as this should get you traffic as well as backlinks.

Welcome to the forum, evan2all!

Backlinks are when other sites besides yours link to any particular page on your site. It is also your own pages linking to one another. How to get some or more? Build a great site that people will then naturally want to link to is the best way.

Good luck!

You should link FROM and TO the most relevant pages. In the case of a directory you should really link to your home page, or if your site has vastly different sub categories, then to the index page of the sub cat folder. (again this is the most relevant).

Linking serves two masters, link popularity and traffic sharing. link for both and you are building a good long term web marketing strategy.

Avoid the link exchange ... unless it is from relevent category ...
there are plenty of free directories on net, search and submit your site to most relevent category

Be patient evan2all, link building takes time. It's an ongoing process that most webmasters work on continuously, so don't expect results right away.

And while you wait, check out those articles Jill mentioned. They're an excellent source of info and have lots of good ideas in them!

Exchange links with the sites listed in the same category as yours in the major web directories, such as the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory.

Find sites that accept site submissions........... visit your favorite search engine and search for : "add url" "your keywords"

also try searching for hte actual submission page using its page names ...... like addurl.html, addsite.html, addlink.html, etc ....

Hope these may help you ....

Where'd it say that in all those articles I pointed to you.

Please read them ALL if you really want to know what to do. There are all sorts of ideas for you. Certainly one or more should work. Yes, you will have to do some hard work, but if you have it in you, it will pay off in the end.
