Is it just me, or do other people get really ticked off by those dumb link requests that arrive in the inbox?
Y'know the type I mean ... I represent a website but I am not telling you anything about it. A link from your site would be relevant and would be appropriate to our business. Email this request back for more information, or if you do not wish to receive further emails from me, send an email with the words NO EMAILS in the subject line. WTF!? (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/ranting.gif) Does this garbage actually work? I mean, if your website is so great, give me the url and I will have a look and hey, I will probably link with you! All this cloak and dagger stuff is just wasting my (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bleep.gif) time! Steps off (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/soapbox.gif) now McF |

No kidding. They get an automatic delete from me, as well. If you have looked at my site, it would be only fair that I look at yours before considering a link.
Worse, who WOULD respond to such a request? Someone so desparate for links that they don't care where they come from. Is this a linking partner you want? It's bad for both parties. It's based on a template from a popular linking software, and IMO does no one any good. Ian |

The only thing worse than than a pointless link request is that spam that tells me that "I just visited your site, and noticed that you're not listed on most major search engines!"
I always want to ask, "then how did you manage to find my site so easily??" Nathan |

HATE all of the above! 99 times out of 100, it is obvious no person looked at the site. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/fork_off.gif) (I must be feeling really bit***y ...second time I've used that little guy today!)
The 1% can be gems, though, because they are from real people who have thought things through and know why/how our sites are compatible. |

How funny- we were just discussing this. I mean really, does anyone bother to read past the first line anymore?

Bobette, that is just why getting links are not a problem. If I have a client that has a zero PR site, I just send those mails, along with a few links to some of my other clients sites/ rankings. I tell the person I am asking for a link from exactly which page on their site matches which page on the client site, I explain why linking from within pages is better, I expalin that although the site has a 0 PR now, soon it will have a PR5 (they normally do within 3 months but why do people care about it?)
If you make it real, then people read it. I have had many emails coming back saying that they didn't realise about this that or the other, and thanking me, plus agreening to the links. The internet is not a machine, it is simply a load of wires that carries around human interaction, when people click with that it becomes much easier. |

Well it can make you mad if you see its templated or sent from a program but some people do have success with it our they probably wouldn't be doing it. The only thing that bothers me are sites like linksmanager. Total rip off.

QUOTE(cyberwire @ Aug 7 2004, 10:37 PM) The only thing that bothers me are sites like linksmanager. Total rip off. I can't say it is the type of software I would use personally, but this article on Sitepoint.com, is a bit of an enthusiastic rave in favour: Review: LinksManager Reciprocal Links Service McF |

That particular cloaking software is widely used by the spammer community. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/poster_spam.gif) (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/mf_tongue.gif)
IMO, Linksmanager used by itself isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the fact that it will link easily to linkpartners is troublesome. It's very easy to use this software poorly, hence it's not-so-great reputation. Ian |

I occassionally get link requests and then It is very simple: if is revelant to the page I link to them, and expect nothing in return.
If it is a spam initiated request (like those mentioned earlier) auto-delete. If a person / firm with firm name, address, phone and other POC info in the e-mail then I check their site what they really do if I cannot tell by their tag lines, if they are off topic (and most are) then I just tell them I refuse to link to off topic web sites. Of the three this week two were from people that work in related services to my wedding photography business in so I added them in and third got the off topic reply. |
