I just saw this news article on an update to the Google Tool Bar
Google Goes Browsing by Name So far, I haven't gotten the update and I'll wait and see how long it takes. Anyone got it yet? Any other big differences? |

interesting...I'd probably find it annoying though. I mean, what if I don't WANT to go to the grand canyon site? :|

Egad! Real Names all over again? All those browser keyword companies must be dying...
Not sure if this is a good thing. I imagine sites will start paying to be the one that you get taken to which seems to be not part of google's usual way of doing things....will be interested to see how this plays out. |

QUOTE If users type in name that isn't specific or well recognized, the toolbar automatically performs a Google search on the subject, giving users a choice of destinations to choose from, the company says. I guess it would only work for very specifc and large brands that generally dont have any english meaning to them......its hard to say. Lets see how it works out....IMO google might not redirect to the highest bidder (rather just to the most relevatn one), if they really want users to save time using this. |

It's really just a slightly different way to set Google as the default search in IE. I'm not going to turn it on, because I like having MSN results available without installing a toolbar. The way it works is just like the "I'm Feeling Lucky" search, if they have a good match. Otherwise you just get search results. Same way MSN/RealNames worked, except they can make a lot more matches.
