I scanned - so I may not have the full picture - but these "stealware" software programs do something to reset or create affiliate codes so ( 1 ) the "real" affiliate loses current and future earnings plus ( 2 ) the company(ies) running the software get paid a commission they didn't earn?
:!: So... the computer user gets unsolicited software installations, the affiliate gets (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/censored.gif) out of money, the company paying affiliate commissions gets overcharged PLUS I guess a disgruntled affiliate force and the (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/censored.gif) stealware company siphons ill-gotten gains into their bank accounts. The affiliate marketing industry must be livid! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/ranting.gif) I wonder if there have been any action taken by the affiliate industry or statements from trade organizations? [Scottie you must have been busy this morning digging up all this great stuff! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup1.gif) ] |

For this to work, you have to allow the scumware companies to join your affiliate program so they can get paid.
You can stop them in two ways. 1. Don't let them join and kick any current ones out. 2. Add to your affiliate agreement that these companies are not allowed to use such tactics and they will not be paid if they do. It's not always easy to identify them since they change their names and sign up under dba's. However, you can state that any affiliate using tactics you consider unfair will not be paid for their sales. And, you reserve the right to judge what is fair and what is unfair. Right now on many affiliate forums people are saying that they refuse to join programs that do not state that they oppose scumware. To stop them, hit them in the wallet. It's the only language they understand. |
