First, let me say that I understand that the ads to promise to submit your site to 1500 search engines and directories will generate a lot of spam emails, no rankings and and very little traffic.

But in today's quest for incoming links my question is whether these services be used to generate incoming link popularity?

I realize that you would have to review the search engines/directories included to try and eliminate the links farms, but I wanted to get feedback on the idea

Forget about automated submission. First of all, there are currently two real search engines (Google and Yahoo) and there will at some point in the relatively near future be a third (MSN). And you don't actually need to submit to any of them.

Secondly, every directory is a little different. Their categories may not be organized the same way, they may ask for different information, and they may have different requirements regarding how many characters you're permitted to enter into a given field on their submission form. You just have to do them one at a time. Otherwise, of your 1500 submissions, you can probably expect 4 or 5 to get approved.

Hi Bob

Thanx for the quick reply..The thought I had was that the automatic process would be done solely to generate incoming links. The other "legitimate" SEO work would include getting a site indexed by the big 3 etc.

If my goal the to increase my incoming links then all I want is a directory to list and link to me. Not trying to be too cynical but if the directory will generate no traffic, then the link could be more important than the category listing.

If it were that easy you'd think all of those millions of folks who fell for it over the years and paid their $39 to be auto-submitted to 15 gazillion search engines and directories would sitting with #1 spots.

Hate to break it to you David, but they're not. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Most are lucky to be in the top 1,000.

It's a nice thought, but it won't work to accomplish what you have in mind. Just a waste of time and money and will get you spammed into oblivion.

I seem to remember some people testing those services in the past, and they result in somewhere between 1 and zero incoming links to your site. Usually closer to the zero end of the scale.

braveheartdesign: I tried it when i was new....it was "1" for a while and then "0". Most of those directories are built entirely for this...they work like Q...new site gets added (without category) and the one on top goes away....there is 0 benefit IMO

Thanx all for the feedback..It was just a thought that I had..I guess I have to go back to building incoming links one site at a time
