When doing a site map and internal navigational linking WITHIN a site, does titling or "anchor" text links make much of a difference?

Or is this more of an external linking thing?

thanks,
Loren

Much more effective for external links coming in I believe.

It would <help> but i'd say especially in a site map situation you'd definitely want to make it logical, rather than hinder the experience for the user. If I sold cars and my section was about Ford Mustangs i'd definitely label the underline navigation Ford Mustag as opposed to Fast Car (where Fast Car is the keyword im targetting (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )

Loren,

Yes, it's extremely important, both within your site and with the external links.

Titling internal links is more for usability and not important for SEO perspective

We're not talking about "titling" links.

Anchor text links isn't "titling."

It's the words you put in the clickable part of your hyperlink.

You are correct that titling links isn't read by the search engines at this time. But I read Loren's post as wondering about anchor text links, not titling.

Yes for a couple reasons. First, it's a solid SEO tactic that reinforces your keyword phrases and helps with the search query.

And second, it's a great sales tool. Using descriptive, compelling and keyword rich verbiage in anchor text makes people click further into a site and toward a sale.

The bottom line for any link is to be clicked. Make them so they're irresistable!

very important, i experimented with a external anchor text and did not place the phrase anywhere on my site and got a top 30 rank in google. as long as the anchor text is at least somewhat relevant, it will do wonders for you, so i have found.
