Hi all,

I have just been looking at my competition's site and one of them uses a meta tag that I've never seen before - META NAME="REVISIT-AFTER" CONTENT="15 days"

I've looked it up and apparently it tells the spiders how long before they should re-visit the site. Is this useful? Do they actually do as instructed? and is it likely to do more harm than good? I've never heard Jill talk about it either which is why I'm suspicious.

Also, I've recently seen a site that put keywords into comments tags inide the <html> tags but before the <head> tag - is this any use, is it spamming or does it have no effect at all?

Thanks
Nik

I don't think this tag is of any use.

Spiders will revisit on their own, they can't be told when to do so.

>Is this useful?

Not really.

>Do they actually do as instructed?

Never, in my experience. Though others may disagree.

>and is it likely to do more harm than good?

The only people who are likely to use this tag are people who have seen it used on other sites ranking above theirs (from what I've seen) - so, if I were a particularly paranoid search engine, I'd do a scan for all sites that use this tag and then take a close look at them because this will show up people who are trying to find out how to get higher rankings! However, search engines aren't that paranoid so they'll probably just ignore it!

Ditto on what MMT said, but also keep in mind that the robots control is a restrictive control, in as much as it does not tell them what to do, it tells them what NOT to do.

If they did take notice, in effect what you are telling them is ' do not come back here for at least 15 days'.

It's about as useful as this tag:

<Meta Name="#1 Position in Google" Keywords="my keywords here">

Try it, you'll be amazed!

Lol...

I agree with the other posters... That tag has absolutely no use in seo. The only meta tags I would recommend using are the keyword and description meta tags.

Are the geo or location meta tags useful for anything?

Yeah, I thought I'd start adding location tags in case the SEs ever get serious about delivering local and regional listings based on something other than TLD.

I'll be the first on my block ...!
