Hello ,

I have a website with .com extension and ranking pretty well in Google USA but our main business is in australia and I don't want to use GWMT for geo targetting because it would effect my ranking in google usa and would have no guarantee of good rankings in google australia too .

So I am planning to launch my company website in .com.au extension but with same content .

So whether google can penalize me for duplicate content ?

Thanks

Gagan

Hi gagan,

Yeah... you should not place the same contents in different sites...try to separate them...

For example:

If we copy too much content from same site also a problem.
So try to avoid duplicate. Make little bit variation.

good luck

Gagan,

What I'm finding when I research this on Google blogs, etc., is that multilingual sites are not considered duplicate content. I.e., you have an English site and you translate it into Spanish. However, differences in dialects (U.S. English vs. Australian English) would be considered duplicate content even though the pages are listed in different Google engines.

I'm just reading what others are saying. I have not confirmed this with Google so while it may be true, it also may not be (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

There's no penalty per se, but one site won't get the rankings you think you'll get. So why have two identical sites? Waste of time and effort.

Google had solved my problem and now I believe that Its getting Smarter now .

Since I was trying to get rank in Google Australia and did not want to use GWMT for GEO Targeting , So I added
my client's Australian address on each page of website in hope that Google would know that this is Australian
website .

And with in 2-3 days after Google crawled my website , We got positions in top 10 as earlier we were nowhere in Top 100 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Since our niche is not too competitive i feel that my rankings would be stable now

Regards

Gagan
