After all the initial hype I'm curious as to whether anyone uses Cuil or feel they've improved their algorithm. It seems as if its all but forgotten. I couldn't even remember the correct spelling and had to Google it. Talk about ironic.

I'd heard about it a while back and then forgot all about it.

You know what they say about getting only one chance to make a First Impression copywriter39?

The old saying is true. I've not been back since the first day I heard about it, tried it and found it lacking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angel_not.gif)

And Me!

Edit: However, I just popped back to see if it had changed.

It aint!

Although my site is on the first page still for my best performing keyword (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ), they are still showing an old, outdated picture that has no relevance to my site.

I wont be going back soon!

I imagine they're working on fixing up all the bad things they heard about it upon launch and then will have another launch. Don't be surprised to start hearing about it again at some point!

I guess I'll keep it on the no mind list until I hear they have improved it performance or my clients start asking about it.

Their results are pretty lame, in my humble estimation. It'd be cool to me if they improved. Competition is good, and Google just keeps dropping everyone.

I use it occasionally, and I often find the results to be anything but lame. However, they are not yet a robust search engine. It will take them at least two years to come up to competitive speed.

Quantcast and Compete both show estimates that their traffic has leveled off in the 100K-200K visitors per month range. As search tools go, that's pretty respectable.

The only marketing mistake they made, in my opinion, was to announce the search engine the way they did. They lost a lot of credibility that first day, unnecessarily so.

Someone in their organization was using a forms processing script on one of my sites to "promote" their site. They'd send a spurt of greeting cards with a personal message telling the recipient how wonderful their search engine was. It became so endemic and frustrating that I eventually changed the script, swapping any and every mention of cuil.com over to google.com.

It still took them over a week to realize they could only promote their competition, but they eventually went away. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Cuil should pay webmasters to use their searchbox. That is what Google did 10 years ago. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/penny.gif)

It's a shame if they are dipping into spam tactics to promote their search engine. They rolled out some additional functionality recently and they just need to be patient, build a good service, and let the core audience grow.

Microsoft has already surpassed Yahoo! in number of search visitors and is approaching Google's search visitors. The search engine market is more competitive than the bogus query-based reports issued by Compete, comScore, Hitwise, and Nielsen would have us believe. There is plenty of opportunity for young services like Cuil to pursue.

Huh? Seriously? Can you point us to those stats? My numbers don't show anything close to that being true. I generally see a good 80% of search engine visitors from Google and a mere 2-3 % from MSN/Live. Even if it were up to 10% it's not even close.
