Will image captions help image rank in search engines? If so, what's the best way to adding caption to the image?

I don't know if they will help search engine rankings, but my research is starting to indicate that they can help whether your image shows up in the search results (Google's Universal Search).
So, it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a caption that stated exactly what the image is, if you're interested in having your image show up. (This applies to news stories for the most part.) |

I'd use a bit of css styling to change the font style and probably the color too.

I've personally seen some evidence to show that text surrounding a picture (along with the alt tag) can be used to classify a picture in Google image search.

Has anyone tried optimising images using IPTC information such as title, description and keywords?

We know that.
However, for example in the UK if we go to buy a vacuum cleaner many people call it a a "Hoover" but I can't imagine a sales assistant correcting a customer. I understand the reason for this ever so frequent correction, but I do think it detracts from the core topic. |

Ah but, some vacuum cleaners are made by Hoover. Never at any point have alt attributes ever been "tags"!

(This applies to news stories for the most part.) yes name images with key terms and tag them does work well to get extra trafic an image from a blog post I did for my german car clinet about rumors of them going into F1 is showing in the univesal search above position 1 for a nice juiciey term :-) though i just checked and some one else has go that slot :-( |
