Prices for SEO work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started shopping around for optimizing our company website and am amazed at how pricey some of the SEO firms are.

I have gotten price of $5,000 - $10,000 just to originally tweak the site and $1,500 a month for a 6 month contract after the initial launch. These prices include PR release, some link building, and other stuff

Is it me or is this really expensive, especially since I am uncertain about the results I will obtain from these firms. I am really hesitant about dropping $10,000-$20,000 with people I have never done business with before.

Again, just checking out the market price

Any advice ?

If they're actually doing real SEO work and fixing your site to be the best it can be, plus they actually have proven results, then the price is in the ballpark.

But you'd have to verify what they're doing and whether it's the kind of thing that works to bring more targeted search engine traffic to your site, or whether it's just a load of crap that people think makes a difference, but in reality doesn't.

Do they have references? Satisfied clients? Case studies?

PR releases really isn't SEO, in my opinion. You may want to keep that in mind!

Could you give an indication in what field your website is in? Then we could give you a better answer.

How big is the site? Is there a reasonably solid content foundation to work with? It's all relative in my opinion. i.e. If you just run a wee 5-10 pager than $10,000 sounds a little ridiculous. But if you have a fairly comprehensive resource there, then you are going to want fairly in depth SEO to leverage that content.

You can rewrite the title tags and that will make a difference in search visibility. Or you can do a full-on campaign and that will bring results too. It really depends on where you're at now with the site and where you want to go. And what you can afford. Again, that's MY professional opinion (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink1.gif)

I have to agree with the people above me on their points.
We would need to know a bit of information about the site in question.
Things like the size of your site (the amount of pages), the industry that you
are in and the current state of your website are just a few of the things
that play as a factor in pricing an SEO campaign.

Cheers,

Mike
