A competitor in one particular niche I always thought was an okay site. I dont really take much notice of other competitor sites, like some do, to be honest.

However looking at one of our important entry page key phrases today I noticed this particular site had moved up a cple of spots (not above me thankfully, im happily atop the tree) and being impossible to miss was the returning url for that result.

http:/*www .domain.com/group_services_barcelona_dmc_corporate_events_in_barcelona

after that it would get longer (just for a 2 click deep page) example: /special_events_in_barcelona

the first url is one of the main navigation buttons on the site.

I am aware that it may look ugly to some searchers etc and concern myself with our own conversions but surely that is in no other bracket than spam? Shouldnt Google n co be piddled off? Where would alarm bells go off in that sense? an underscore is not considered a space, is that correct?

It's not spam, it's just a long URL.

Yeah, doesn't really look that spammy to me. Maybe if it were named site.com/keyword1-keyword1-keyword1-keyword1-barcelona.html

And yeah, btw use hyphens instead of underscores to seperate words in your URL

Im really suprised at the reponses. 8 words for a file name is spam in my eyes.

"Maybe if it were named site.com/keyword1-keyword1-keyword1-keyword1-barcelona.html" is pretty much exactly what it is.

Yep. It's a default with wordpress, which is why the engines would never just arbitrarily say it's spam. I think even Matt Cutt's posts on his blog may use that format!
