I work for a site, and it took a while for me tor ealise they have "issues" in Google. I got Webmaster central up and running, and I see this mesage:
QUOTE Home page crawl: Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Mar 15, 2008. Index status: No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index. Indexing can take time. You may find it helpful to review our information for webmasters and webmaster guidelines. You have not submitted any Sitemaps. Submit a Sitemap to help Google discover pages our crawlers might not otherwise find. Once you create and submit a Sitemap listing the URLs on your site, we'll provide you with data on how Google is indexing those pages. More information Thing is, when I do a search for site:thesiteinquestion, it shows 61 pages indexed. So, which is it? Does anyone have experience witha similar situation and have any pointers? |

I've read several posts over the last week or two where the Webmaster Tools data is totally screwy and contrary to what normal searches say is the truth. I'm betting on it being a Tools glitch.

I would too Randy, except that the site in question doesn't rank for ANYTHING.... EVER, including long sentences that have about 25 words from specific pages. Does in quotes, but not without.
This is so frustrating for me because the client is super skeptical SEO can work and, to be fair, it really isn't, but that must surely be an issue with something "bad" if they don't ever rank for anything. |

I have got the same message in my webmaster tool. However the site is indexed and ranking for competitive terms also.

I have got the same message in my webmaster tool. However the site is indexed and ranking for competitive terms also. Same here, as of last night. It panicked me a bit, but the site seems to be ranking higher if anything so I'm not too worried just yet. Not sure if Google Tools pre-empts or follows problems, so I'll be keeping a close eye. Hopefully, it is just a glitch. Fingers crossed... |

I'm not saying this is the case, just throwing it out there...
Since the site isn't ranking for anything at all is it possible that the site: type searches are pulling pages that are actually in the Supplemental Index, but the Webmaster Tools method doesn't return those as being indexed? IMO it would be a good thing if this is actually the case. It would give people a relatively easy way to tell if pages start dropping into SI, which is something we're not able to do via other means right now. |

I'm getting the same thing GWMT saying 'no pages index' , which is complete BS , and site:mydomain shows all my pages.
But hey, what do you expect, since when has anything from G! actually worked (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hysterical.gif) Infact , the URL Removal tool still won't work either QUOTE Apr 10, 2008 /M2K-HLP2/ Directory removal Denied Does it matter if G! has pages index that don't exist and the URL removal tool won't remove them? what else can I do? |

I submitted a new sitemap for a website recently, and it says it hasn't indexed any URLs yet after about a week or so, but many of them are in the index.
If the site has been up for awhile and you haven't changed the URLs recently, or submitted a new sitemap recently, then it's probably just a bug and not related to your ranking issue. 1dmf: You might have to add a disallow directive in the robots.txt in order for Google to remove it, even if Google is getting a 404. |

QUOTE You might have to add a disallow directive in the robots.txt in order for Google to remove it, even if Google is getting a 404. huh?I have to add to my robots.txt an exclusion for something that doesn't exist? That sounds like phooey to me. I'll just leave G! to do its own thing, can't be worrying about bogus reports on a system that is obviously riddled with bugs! |

QUOTE(ZeroPR) I was led to believe that the site:xxx/& command showed pages in the main index rather than the supp. Is that not the case? Some reported such extra-stuff searches maybe, possibly weeding out the SI pages right after Google removed the visible notification. However it was never anything close to an Official work around and while those tend to work for a little bit usually Google etal usually get these types of funky searches disabled pretty quickly if they do in fact show something they don't want to show. There's no reliable way I know of to discover Supplemental vs actul Indexed content. Which is why I think it would be nice if they gave that kind of detail in the Webmaster Tools. |

I get 1 result for my domain, but if i click the 'show results not displayed' it shows all my pages, so is the 1 page the only one in the SI?
