I submited my site in some free and paid directories [removed]. That is relevant for a better position on SERPS at google or whatever?

It's helpful. It's not likely to be enough, but that depends on how competitive your niche is.

Registration in directories is good. But its effectiveness depends on the number of the links, quality (the higher is a directory PR - the better), niche subject of a directory, popularity of the page that contains links, and, at the end, frequency of directories.

Most directories are crap and a waste of time. IMO, I'd try to get listed on the major directories and niche directories topically related to yours. Just going by pagerank to determine a directories link worth to your site isn't enough. There's alot of twits running around these days creating directories, offering free listings where they add every site and it's dog, guaranteeing inclusions with payment, and then selling them when they get big, those types of directories are junk and they're all over the place.

I think that if is not a reciprocal type, any link coming from directories is important. Of course there are main directories and the rest, but any anchor helps to SEO.

I think that if is not a reciprocal type, any link coming from directories is important. Of course there are main directories and the rest, but any anchor helps to SEO. I was told that Google and other Search Engines took almost no account of directory links these days - but when I submitted my site to a number of directories I shot up the rankings with Google. I stopped submitting my URL for a month or so and since then my position has hardly improved - in fact I have fallen back abit. I don't pay for submission and do not add reciprocal links. Time to start submitting again I feel. |

There are so many directories out there any more, it seems as if Google is beginning to discount many of them. A lot of those so called SEO friendly directories have had their pagerank dropped to almost zero.

Directories are good sources of one-way links and does help in boosting your SERP position so long as you employ proper anchoring of the keywords you want to rank for (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink1.gif)

ive heard disputed reports on this - obviously it depends alot on the nature of the directory - it's credibility - and your niche.
In general it does not hurt you though - but it is unlikely to make a huge difference quickly. |

If you are a newbie in directory submission, find and submit your site to free listing first before you submit your site in paid listing. I think it will help your site to boost your Search Engine Result Page (SERP) and popularity of your website.
