Hello

We know we can use only a limited number of keywords in the title, in the description metatag and the the rest of the content of a single web page.

There are numerous other keywords for which we would want the page to rank well. So, is the only way to achieve this is by building incoming links with those keywords as the anchor text? Is there any other way?

(Lets rule out the possibility of the existence of other pages related to those keywords.)

If we rule that out then we must all accept that you're not building a web site, but merely a web page. We'd also have to accept that you'd like to purposely sabotage efforts.

Every page of your website is a gateway to the rest of it. Use this to your advantage and optimize each page for their own very specific and targeted keyword phrases that they are about.

You home page should not be attempting to do everything for your site and it certainly should not be optimized for every single keyword that one might put into a search engine to find what you offer.

If you are a Ford dealership for example, I would suggest having the home page cater for the general term Ford etc then would create subpages for each part of the business ie Ford Service, Ford New Cars, Ford Used Cars, Ford Parts with each subpage containing keywords of that particular business. Once the search engine find your home page and providing you employ good links internally for the search engine to understand your website (sitemap.xml etc) you will start to see the subpages also appear in search engine results for the keywords they are individually targeting.

Let me present myself more clearly:

The homepage, lets call it domain.com, comes up in the 8th page in Google with a particular keyword.

A separate page exists for that keyword. But the url is complex....it involves a subdomain. Its like this:

subdomain.domain.com/list.php

This page does not rank anywhere in Google with this keyword.

The present ranking of the homepage makes me think twice whenever I make an effort to build incoming links for that keyword. The question "Which url should I submit?" remains.

Firstly, Why would you target a keyword for which you already have a page ranking that well. Choose a different keyword that suites the theme & purpose of that separate page on subdomain.

Also, either choose a homepage for backlinks with that keyword or choose an another keyword for backlinks to that separate page on subdomain. I would want to give maximum Anchor Text juice to page optimized for the anchor text keyword.

Regards

Then you should submit whichever URL is the most appropriate for where ever you're submitting to.
