A client of mine has a site that's recently been redeveloped. It's been live for 3 or 4 months and doesn't appear to have been indexed by any of the search engines. I've added an XML sitemap and on viewing the report there is a 500 (internal server error) next to each of the 63 URL's in the sitemap.
I'm assuming that the search engine robots can't access any of the URL's. They're fine for me, an example being - www.example.com/sectors/Sectordetails.aspx?SectorId=2 There must be some reason that the search engines can't see any of the pages. Could it be something to do with the fact that the hosting company is using domain name alias's? The primary domain appears to be - blah.shared.hosting.example2.co.uk/ which was used when the site was developed. When the site was launched all they did was setup a domain alias of example.com. When I build a site I build it using the actual domain name and access it using my hosts file. When it goes live, I do so by changing nameservers. All my sites get indexed. One other thing, timbmet.com has a PageRank of 4. This seems a bit mad and is confusing us even more. Cheers in advance.
Reason for edit: removed actual urls

You've got a server configuration problem somewhere that needs to be sorted Jon. It's an IIS server so I don't have a guess where it might be located, but there's a config error somewhere.
Grab a copy of the free WebBug application and test the site yourself, making sure to use HTTP Version 1.1 when you do. Once you sort out this technical issue so that the pages deliver a 200 OK response the site will start to be spidered. |
