Incorporating Social Media Networking In Business Options

hello everyone,
Every day We read so many blogs and articles on Social Media bookmarking being a next big think in online marketing....
So, I was thinking to incorporate this in our business of providing SEO/SEM services. But before I do that, I have few queries that need to be answered, so here they are...

1. How SS Marketing can benefit niche business websites, those have very industry specific business. Where can I find niche Social Media Site, if they exist at all.
2. What kind of content should we use for social bookmarking.

If it is contradictory, then how can a specific business website can get benefitted from Social Media Website?
OR
I should say that Social media websites are only meant for very generic topics and are of no use to niche business site.????????

Or may be there is third way around?
Will such website can be benefited by submitting very general content related to their market as use it to build a social circle from where traffic can be generated?
Sound confusing? May be you guys can have a idea........

Great question, and a critical one.

First of all, I don't believe niche and social networking are at odds with one another... in fact, niche is the logical extension of the concept. If you want to be connected to the world, there are certainly sites that will do that, but if you're interested in sharing about something more close to your heart, there is no end to the sites that are available.

I can't provide you an exhaustive list of niche social media sites. Besides, the second I pressed "Add Reply" for my post, it would be outdated.

If your site is pet-related there are sites like Catster and Dogster that will be a natural gathering place for your potential customers. If your product is targeted towards Latinos there are sites like MiGente. Sports, religion, vocation and avocation: there are places to connect and share.

If you're going to succeed in your chosen business, you have to know your niche. You have to find the places yourself.

I understand it to be the use of Web 2.0 strategies to engage your customers. You would for instance give customers the abillity to interact with your company/products on a social level and build relationships that way. You would also allow for your customers to share their preferences and views on your products with friends. Think consumer generated content and a model where the customer had control. That obviously brings some threats of opening up yourself for criticisism, but whole industries are popping up around online reputation management and it's something that will have to be implemented if you're looking for a possitive result. The niche factor can be another approach to it where you create the online niche and do relationship marketing to that niche in a non obtrusive way.
