I am not the best at making a exceptionally pretty looking website. I know that by using CSS I can make many of the layout and design issues easy to change and keep them external to the page content.

I am thinking about making a website which is a directory and wanted to know if there was any software for this purpose that is worthwhile. I have seen many sites using gossamer threads and other similar products. Is there any that really stands out as good stuff?

I wanted to know if there was any software of this nature that was
1.) well worth is price
2.) made design a decent amount easier

I was actually looking at software for directories recently. One that looked really nice and easy to use was the Free PHP Directory Script. I didn't try it or anything, but it seemed to have lots of features.

Good luck!

I am not one for installing stuff...but that almost seems suspiciously easy...will let you know how things go in a week or so (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

so all will know they have three different versions of the script

version a and version b are essentially the same thing

the only differences are that version b does not require the tag line back to their site and that version b costs either $20/yr or $50 for lifetime license

version c is the full version of the script and is a little overpriced in my eyes at $700!!!

if they would drop that price down to a few hundred dollars I bet they would actually sell quite a few copies

it has a couple nice features such as

3 different levels of submission
submission payment via paypal integrated into directory script
it creates static pages
it stores a backup of the directory
allows multiple pathways to a file

i am not buying the advanced version yet, but the other version can be installed in less than 10 minutes by a person who does not install stuff! if you do not mind the tagline the script is free

I've used PHPhoo before and it worked well. It comes out of the box fairly 'Plain Jane' but if you know some CSS, that can be easily remedied. The best part -- it's free (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
