Ive just been reading about Google Base (same as Froogle?), and have submitted a test product to it to see what happens (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Is anyone else using it, and if so have you had more sales because of it? I am going to suss out the mass upload now (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I think we've had some discussions about Google Base previously. I don't have any products in there at the moment, but I did for awhile (let the listings lapse because I wasn't seeing any results). I also uploaded a couple of articles a few months ago. Haven't seen any amazing results from that, either, at least not as of yet...

I've had a go a couple of times but had absolutely no results from it - no hits, no sales, nothing.
I'm sure there are opportunities within it but I can't justify spending any more time on something that has brought no results. Unlike other more established channels (such as ppc or auctions) there doesn't seem to be much info about making the system work optimally or tips about what I may have done wrong, so for now it's in my 'keep an eye on it' pile. |

Hmmmm. I think it depends on how you build your site as to how much work it is.
It will take me an hour or so to write a script to generate an rss feed of my store products - it will be interesting to see if I get any more traffic from it. I read somewhere that google logically might start just reading the rss feed directly, instead of you having to upload it via ftp - which seems daft and inefficient to me. Especially when the Sitemaps tool reads the xml directly! I guess its just in its infancy (ie beta). |

Froogle can be a HUGE money maker if you sell the types of products people search for on Froogle (and even Google for that matter.) I work for a mid-size software/hardware/electronics/video games reseller and we make a substantial amount of revenue every month from Froogle.
SEOing your site will help your Froogle rankings as will submitting a feed on a regular basis (at least weekly.) We submit a well optimized feed every day automatically and it works out very well. It's unfortunate really that there isn't a lot of information out there on how to optimize for Froogle. I think I might write my first ebook on the topic soon, could be fun. You think enough people would be interested? |

QUOTE I think I might write my first ebook on the topic soon, could be fun. You think enough people would be interested? Probably Al. There is so very little information out there about Froogle/Google Base. I have one site that I used to submit all the time as a sort of test. I've let that submission lapse totally since the site already ranks well for its phrases via normal search. My take, which is probably wrong, is that Google Base could be quite effective is someone doesn't have some products in the online store or if they're having trouble getting their site spidered. Since my sites tend to be spider friendly, I just don't see the need. |

Hi
I added my sites products to base two weeks ago and playing around with our keyphrases in Yahoo, one of my products came up on page 1 and it was a base listing! I have also found that careful use of wording can get you near the top in froogle also So i guess it could help :-) |

Hi linux_lover,
I have submitted my client's sites on Google base & Froogle many a times. In the past you need to upload your products to Froogle & Google base saperately. But now Google has combined both services. You need to submit your products to Google base only. And your products will appear in both based on the quality of bulk upload feed that you have submitted. And yup Froogle is giving good quality traffic. In froogle is a shopping search engine of Google. One more benifit of Froogle is your products has chances to come in the Google.com in the Product search results for"Poducts" results which are coming for some keywords term in Google at the top of results with shoppng bag Image. In Google base you can also submit your services. And both are free services then why not to use it. This post has been edited by Mohit.: Sep 5 2006, 12:18 AM |

Using Google Base, you add your business listings to be shown on Google Maps, where you can then run ads using Adwords and creating a Local Business Ad within an existing or new account.... So by one mass upload, all your business locations are represented....
It's taken me most of a day to get my head around this, and I have just realised how the ads will appear. I'm want to use this for a client, but cannot find any data on the effectiveness, and I'm not sure they will want to do something (or pay for my time to) if they cannot see a basic idea of effectiveness. Does anyone know of any articles which could perhaps point me in the right direction? Thanks (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

We've recently set up a daily froogle upload of over 100,000 products. The benefit has been very noticeable (car industry), particularly when someone is searching on Google and they know exactly what they want (so they use the make/model/derivative in their search terms).
Obviously your mileage may vary (sorry, couldn't resist), and it depends on your industry and the amount of competition as to the value it will return compared to the effort required to set up the bulk upload. One beauty of it is that it's free (as opposed to the ongoing cost of PPC). Once the effort (and therefore money) is spent on getting the upload automated, you can just sit back and know that it's going to be there for you. One thing that I'm not sure about is optimisation for Froogle. Most of the time it seems fairly random what Google shows in the Product search results at the top of the SERPs, but I'm sure someone will be able to advise me about optimising the entries. |
