I’ve been playing around with a few different keywords on a couple of my sites. It’s going quite well and I’m ranking high (#1) for most of the keywords I use. My only problem is that there’s nobody coming to my sites using those keywords. Overture and Google both say my keywords are searched for by a lot of visitors (in the thousands) and I’m coming up number 1 for those keywords but there’s nobody coming to my site for them. Can anyone shed any light as to why this might be?

Any info would be appriciated as I'm stumpped!

Welcome irishbandslist! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/hi.gif)
Could it be that the description and page title that appears on search engine results pages for your site is not so attractive that even if you are on top, nobody dares to try checking out your site?

THIS is why I recommend running a live AdWords campaign.

People have had arguments for a while about content is king, links are king, cabbage on the monitor is king, But the one thing EVERYONE agrees with is keyword research is KING! Get it wrong, and everything you do is wasted effort.

While we learn from our mistakes, it is far better to learn from the mistakes of others, and people often chase keywords that do not exist.

Thanks for the welcome EWC21!
That had crossed my mind but I would still think there would be about a 1% or so click through which would still be a larger number than I was getting before. The keyword and web site are both based on music so I thought there would be enough of a connection for a click through. Maybe I need to do more Keyword Research (Thanks OldWelshGuy!).

Back to the drawing board. Thanks guys.

I 100% absolutely agree!! I have seen too many times where supposed great keyword phrases didn't bring in any visitors. I will also add for Irish - once you have poured into keyword research - make sure the site itself is sellable or even 30,000 visitors a day won't help ya.

Wow.. That's interesting, being number one google but no visitor.. This is my firts time hearing that... *is that surprising? =\
Try to think of the "MOST" common keyword that YOU will use, usually people will also use those words to search for results.

I think this is going to be a classic example that shows long term goal should not be based on rankings but conversions.
