One of my websites receives traffic for a strange keyphrase too. I almost feel bad 'cause I don't respond to peoples needing that kind of info.
Strange days! Strange Google! |

QUOTE(mojo @ Dec 5 2003, 11:10 PM) Did anyone else have their results improve a bit in the last day or so? Yes, a couple of competitive keyterms that had been banished (digitalpoint rank - 9999) have popped back up. Commode and Rollator are both back to midsummer punishment ranking (86 and 57 respectively). It is interesting to watch this site because there are many singular/plural comparisons with minimal PR and expert links. Commodes is still 7 so stemming is not in play there. No froogle on either SERP Weird hmm? |

Since Google never really stopped tweaking since the last "dance" I wouldn't really call this a Google Dance. Just them continuing to tweak to make sure they're actually showing relevant results.

Hi,
Read an article this morning, that suggested that Google is targetting its new update so that commerical sites are effected more than information based ones. Thinking aloud here - could it be that with a IPO coming up, Google adwords revenue will rise? Thus helping the IPO? Would explain a lot. Clare |

QUOTE Thinking aloud here - could it be that with a IPO coming up, Google adwords revenue will rise? Thus helping the IPO? Would explain a lot. That's something many people think, Claire. That doesn't mean they're right though. But it doesn't mean they're wrong either. It is a very plausible scenario though. |

I have made it back to the position I had before the Florida Update for highly competitive keywords. I changed the title of my site, lowered my key density, found non-filtered words and optimized for them. However, I see some of the competition which dropped with me during Florida have also returned, and they made absolutely no changes.

QUOTE(mcanerin @ Dec 6 2003, 08:54 PM) should be interesting to see their reaction to it. since they were not aware of their sudden status as Calgary's foremost web design authority (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Then ask them to put a link to you, and farm out all that web design work for $$$ (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

The guys at Google are nobody's fools, and you can bet that they are putting in place the tools to enable a HUGE blitz on the spammy tactics such as cloaking etc used to deliver non relevant sites.
The thing is that they might not see them as such the large problem that we do, they might take the line of 'if the results are relevant then its ok to cloak' they might have bigger fish to fry! IMO Google will continue to tweak now they have the SEO world on the rack of wonderment, stopping only when they are happy they have the SERPs they want. I still think it is time to make no changes other than to add more pages of relevant content, then again it is close to Christmas, and I kind of get to winding down from the end of November, and we had Miracle on 34th street screened this afternoon so I am even more in the Crimbo mood. I don't think that Google will be getting as many Christmas cards this year however than they have in past years. If the do they will probably have verses like Your Algo sucks times are now hard here's your XXXXXX Christmas card Happy Christmas to Ebeneezer Google |

I seem to be back to where I was before this "googlebug" started on most of my keywords. YES!!! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/lmao.gif) I tweaked the titles, added a smidgeon of new content, a dash of salt and pepper and BAM!!! I noticed earlier today that Yahoo was not using Google's results for some of the keywords. Now I can back off an increasingly expensive advertising campaign some. QUOTE(mojo @ Dec 5 2003, 11:10 PM) For one competitive keyphrase of three words which has 5 million + results (before Florida, this was 3 million +), we went from 183 to 119. For another three word phrase which has 1 million + results we are no.9 as opposed to no. 19. A few days ago, I wrote the above. It was basically about how our results had improved with the latest Googledance - because after the Florida update they had absolutely plummeted. Google still seems to be tweaking things...Our most competitive keyprase (over 5 million hits) has now risen to no. 29. The other phrase I was talking about is now no. 3. What did I do to achieve this - nothing! I made absolutely no changes. Has anyone else that stuck with their pre-Florida files noticed an improvement also? What does irk me though is that a spammy site that was no. 1 (we were no. 3) prior to the Florida update which absolutely plummeted after the Florida update, has made it to no. 3 now in comparison to us at no. 29. Guess they will always find a way to cheat the system. Interestingly a link:www.oursitename.com query in Google now shows 102 results, whereas after Florida there were just 42. At least this experience has taught me a very valuable lesson - don't take free traffic for granted. Also noticing an improvement with my site. We had been number 3/4 for ages for top keyword phrase, during the update nowhere and now back into the top 50.
I haven't made any changes as I didn't have the time but seems like having some patience was the right thing to do. |
