My adCenter experience so far suggests MS has some work to do before moving beyond beta test. For about two weeks I have been trying to get my geotargeted ad to appear without success. The MS help desk people do not seem to know much yet and give me stock answers that do not address my problem. I successfully to PPC advertising on Google and Yahoo.

How has your experience been? Are you geotargeting?

My experience has been overall very good so far. I'm not crazy about the frame-based UI, and many of my submitted keywords were rejected for unknown reasons, but the reporting is nice and flexible, the clicks are cheap (because there are so few advertisers), and I love the Targeting features!

MS seems to have escalated my issue, and has agreed that the IP address of my test computer is within the targeted geography. They seem to be working on the problem.

RiYo - beta participation is by invitation only, but you can apply here: adcenter.msn.com/AuthorizeUser.aspx, and get full doumentation here: advertising.msn.com/msnadcenter/msnadcenter.asp.

PFG - I think MS is still working out the geotargeting bugs. According to the adCenter reports I generate, my ads targeting the U.S. are being displayed at many non-U.S. locations.

Hi - Just signed up for the MSN adCenter beta a few days ago. Here's what I've learned so far:

1. Position is based on your bid & "relevancy" similar to Google AdWords.
2. If you have Yahoo/Overture adds for the same terms with the same display URL it only displays 1 or the other, not both, possibly deciding which to display per your bid amount.
3. Yahoo still seems like the better bet if you can afford to bid into a guaranteed #1 position.
4. The way keywords are entered is a bit clunky, although you can import a full list assuming you get the format right.
5. Keywords can't be edited. You have to delete them then add back as new.
6. You have to place negative matches on every single line. For example if you have 25 keyword phrases and want a negative on the word "free" you have to put that in the NegativeMatch box on all 25 lines.

-EH

There is no URL that you can see only the MSN ads. They are currently serving the ads 30% of the time. What I do is refresh the search results till the MSN results are shown. Sorry but this is the best you can do for the time being.

Looks like there will be a brief opening on Monday where you can sign up without having been sent an invitation... as stated here https://advertising.msn.com/msn-adcenter

QUOTE
adCenter Opens its doors to U.S. advertisers March 6
We’re testing the adCenter customer experience by opening pilot enrollment beginning at 9 a.m. For approximately three hours, you can sign up for an account without waiting for an invitation to the pilot.

You will be asked to pay a $5 signup fee with a credit card, and afterwards you’ll have instant access to your account to begin creating your ads. During this time you can navigate directly to adCenter and get started right away.
