I've got good news for Wordtracker subscribers. I just read in my local paper that Dogpile (based here in Seattle) has started paying for product placement in TV shows. It's a more profitable way to advertise than running a commercial, especially for this type of company, because the producers work Dogpile into the actual story line.
Quoting the Seattle Times' article: DogPile.com has appeared in more than 20 television shows, including the season premiere of CBS' "Ghost Whisperer" and the A&E reality show "Growing Up Gotti." Nolz, of InfoSpace, said he considers a product placement a success when a character goes to a computer, types in a search term, hits the button and gets the right answer. On A&E's "Growing Up Gotti," for instance, Victoria Gotti uses DogPile.com to search Ellis Island records for her great-grandfather. "Then they see the successful search tied with the brand," Nolz said. Please, no discussion on whether product placements are ruining TV viewing! I hate them as much as anybody... but I'm glad Dogpile is using them to full advantage, because the more people who use Dogpile, the more data Wordtracker gets to give us! And as Martha would say, That's a GOOD thing. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/clapping.gif) |

Great find, Lorelle - thanks. I happened to notice one of the other shows it was being used on was Veronica Mars on UPN. And by happened to notice I mean I "heard" about it. Because, of course, I don't watch that show. Nor have I ever heard of it prior to now. Except when it was mentioned to me. Right.
