Hi everyone,

I'm Jasman and this is my first post.

I need some honest assistant here to guide me researching keywords more effectively and efficiently. To start with, I've read Jay's report on keyword tools. He recommended keyword discovery as his final choice based on his own research.

As I know each and every tool is designed for its own purpose. I've personaly tried overture and many people will agree with me that its results in inaccurate. If anyone wants to research keywords for content and SEO, then stay away from it. Likewise the same goes to any other tool that uses overture for it's search results. There're a few popular tools are in this catogery.

I already knew about WT cos currently I'm using it extensively. Combine with another supporting tool, I practically found keyphrases that no one has thought about using them before (competition less than 100). I'm definitely sticking to this tool right now.

What about keyword discovery? I've heard quite a story about this tool. Can anyone who uses it tell me share your personal experience. I'm open minded and always on the lookout for something equivalent and better.

Thanks.

Jasman

I've been using Keyword Discovery for about a month or maybe a bit more, and I love it!

What is it that you like about it? Does it have any additional benefits over other tools?

I don't seem to have had a newsletter for some months Jill. Is there something I need to do to get back onto the newsletter email list?

Thanks.

Yep, check your email address at the page linked to above. If it says you're an active subscriber then you're probably somehow filtering it out and will need to put it on your whitelist.

Hi all!

I subscribe to both, and am really trying to correlate this information. Now, as I understand KEI, it should be roughly the same in any similar data sets when tracked across the "public". But look at these results from keyword discovery vs wordtracker:

Syntax: keyword (kd-KEI vs. wordtracker KEI)
"quotes off" in wordtracker

rugs 412.702 vs. 0.251
wool rugs 249.243 vs. .015
area rugs 102.59 vs. 0.732
capel rugs 10.971 vs. 0.056

What this says to me is that the hyper-competitive term "rugs" would be a good target keyword. My experience is that it's not really.

So... should if KEI is useless, then what kind of data mining makes sense? How can one get a relative measure of competition for a term (ala Google Adwords Keyword Tool's little graphs) for organic search?

Thanks all.

Scott

Have you tried reading this thread: Measuring Keyword Competition? It's pinned at the top of this forum. You might be able to get some ideas/hints from there. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes, KEI useless.

You can turn that part off when you do your research, and instead look at the relative position of the phrases in your lists.

If you're worried about competition, the threads Torka pointed to you should give you good ideas on how to figure it out.

hi Jasman
Wordtracker pulls its data from meta cralwers...so basically what you are getting is what the crawlers are pulling out of the Web Page (Meta and Title keywords)...I dont know if Keyword Discovery does the same..but I am planning to find out... There's a link from the top of the KD home page that takes you to details of how they collect statistics. They are rather vague. They say for some engines, "samples are collected by scraping search statistics from ISP logs".

They do not say what proportion of their stats are "pure Google". So its not possible to say if their stats are a better indication of "reality" than Wordtracker stats. In my experience, I have found Wordtracker stats useful enough, so I'll probably stick with them. Wordtracker is also much less expensive, especially if you start with their 1-day or 1-week plan.
