A couple of recent headlines for DSL users.
First, from E-Commerce News: QUOTE An international standards group has approved a new DSL standard that it says will increase the technology's upstream and downstream speeds to as much as 100 megabits per second -- 10 times faster than the fastest DSL now offered by carriers. and then good news on the pricing front from News.com and Reuters QUOTE SBC, the second-largest U.S. telecom company, said Wednesday it will offer broadband service for $14.95 per month to new customers who sign up online [Edit to fix E-Commerce News link.] This post has been edited by Randy: Jun 2 2005, 08:49 PM |

I would personally be happy for the moment with a 100 MB p/s line(both ways, I need the upload speed!) for a whopping total of $14.95. Especially since I'm already paying 5 times that amount for a fraction of the capacity. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/lol.gif)

Doesnt sound too bad does it.
The situaton in the UK allows a maximum of 2 meg( 256 up) at the moment. Although 8 meg is going to be tested in the next few months. An 100meg line would be awesome (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/kicking.gif) |

France has had 8 Meg in metropolitan areas since at least Christmas time at a very reasonable 15 euros from some suppliers...shame I moved back to the UK!!!
Though the French aren't big on the internet and ecommerce, they still like to see the item they are buying and suspiscous of online payments. Its changing but at least they are being encouraged by the prices to get online. |

China/Hong Kong Broadband Launches 1 Gbps Home Service for US$215/month
Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) officially launched its 1 Gbps symmetric service for the residential market. Approximately 800,000 households, out of a total of 2.2 million households in Hong Kong, are wired to receive the service. The 1 Gbps symmetric service is priced at US$215 per month. HKBN noted that its 1 Gbps service is up to 166x faster downstream and 1,950x faster upstream than the advertised bandwidth of the incumbent's ADSL service. HKBN Premium bb1000 service is being offered on the same metro Ethernet infrastructure that delivers the company's Mass Market bb100 (symmetric 100 Mbps for US$34/month) and Entry Point bb10 (symmetric 10 Mbps for US$16/month) services.
