Has anyone heard of [Company names removed.]?...
A company called me today selling keywords for a yearly fee. They claim you own the keyword and you get a 3 inch window of your website that will appear above the sponsored/organic listings in 15 major search engines. Only those with updated browsers will be able to see it but they claim they are updating browsers at a rapid pace. Their website has a demo that shows you how your website will look in google, yahoo, and msn. thanks in advance! This post has been edited by lenac: May 18 2005, 07:30 PM |

Welcome out of lurkdom, lenac. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)
There have been companies selling keywords like that for almost as long as there have been browsers. They tend to rely on sneaking a piece of adware onto your computer, either without a persons knowledge (common) or as part of a toolbar or other somewhat useful feature. If you want to give them a try, be sure to search for their company names to see if what people are saying about them. The names you listed didn't show up near the top of results (if at all) for their own company's names, which means they're either brand new, don't have web sites, or have somehow gotten kicked out of Google. None motivate me to hand over my credit card number. In the end, give them a try if you believe in their service and have a way of tracking the results. |

Thanks Haystack. I was a little suspicious when I couldn't find anything in google about them (good or bad)...
And thanks Jill for the link to your article. I should have known this was too good to be true... |

If this is what it sounds like, "updating browsers at a rapid pace" means rolling out viral spyware as fast as they can. ie, this works by them installing an application that hijacks users computers.
This is NOT something I would want to be involved in, as I don't want to be involved in doing nasty things to the nice people who give my clients money! |

I've talked to two companies offering this browser plugin that comes bundled in miscellaneous downloads. Company A turned out to be a franchise or something of company B and offered different prices. In the end we determined they both contradicted each other regarding several important points we checked into. We decided to run away.
Their favorite line is "Well if you don't go with us I can't guarantee we won't contact your competition." LOL! |
