Halloween was great here. We have lots of people who decorate and sit out on their porches and really make an event out of it. Lights, props, costumes; some people get very elaborate.

It's time to take the giant inflatable Frankenstein down from the front yard!

Oh, and here's a really sexy picture of me in my Halloween costume- I'm the one in pink.

We live in an appartment block, so although we were ready for the flood of visitors, no one came. However I was coming up in the elevator and met a dear old lady who was carrying a bag. She said that she had been out with her grandchildren trick or treating. She was now returning home but had forgotten to take any chocolate for herself.

I encouraged her to visit us and "Trick or Treat". She got her chocolate bar and a few other goodies. She was delighted.

I'm wondering whether I can claim some trophy for having the oldest trick or treater. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Is that a troll costume Scottie?

Nice, Barry. If she's still in your apartment building next year, you'll have to do that again. I've been reading that adults are stealing Halloween away from children. But a little harmless fun never hurt anyone.

Hey Bill!

Yep- I'm a troll. Many many moons ago I was a department manager for a Children's dept and we had a "get your picture taken with the Troll" promotion back when toy trolls were the "hot item" for Christmas.

You can't see the giant pink feet I'm wearing.

That's pretty cool

It's great to see the huge smiles in that picture, too. Looks like the littles ones had a fun Halloween.

I always found trolls so terrifying....

I only had a couple people ring the doorbell, and we ignored them. They were going for the lady downstairs anyway.
I kinda wish I had some access to some kids of some kind, so I'd have a reason to dress up for Halloween and go trick-or-treating. It's such a great way to extort sugar out of people.

I worked on notes for my novel and ate ice cream, and at midnight I switched over to writing the novel. I barely started before I realized that my notes were totally inadequate.
But still, I have nearly 6,000 words for today alone, and some of them are historically accurate! I'm terribly pleased with myself. I find writing so addictive... It was way more fun than if I'd actually gone anywhere, like trick-or-treating or to a Halloween party or to the Halloween Parade down in the city. It's sort of sad to be as antisocial as I am. I nearly killed my boyfriend when he asked if I'd make dinner, but realized it was probably just as well that I spend 15 minutes not staring at the computer...

I guess that's what you call Fast Food. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

BTW did you hear about the Slow Food movement. At least I think that's what it was called. It's all about taking more time over food, going for the good stuff, etc.

Barry, I love the story of your 1 trick-or-treater. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/lmao.gif) If you have extra chocolate, you could always try to stock up on brownie points with Jill.

I don't know about the Slow Food movement. But I do know most experts recommend you take at least 20-30 minutes to eat a meal so that your body has a chance to register that it is full and prevent you from overeating. It doesn't sound like a lot until I realized I usually eat in 10 minutes or less!

283? Did you actually have enough for all of them, or did you have to raid the pantry and start giving out dry pasta or something?

Yeah, we had enough. Barely. I always stock up because our norm is 150-180. Just warmer weather this year so all of the little ones were out in force.

Halloween is always a big production around here. Self-inclosed neighborhood in a small town, so lots of parents drop their kids off and let em walk the 5 x 5 blocks where pretty much every other house is decked out and open for business.

That's a lot of kids for such a small area. My neighborhood is nothing like that at all. I guess it's about the same size, but the population is obviously very different: Harvard and MIT students, old folks who've had their houses forever (and probably paid about 20k for them) and a few yuppies scattered around. And me.

The "house" across the street from my next-door neighbors is actually an old garage that was abandoned for years. It was bought about five years ago by a photographer who has built a second floor to live in and plans to use the ground floor as his studio. He's been working on it since he bought it, but it still isn't habitable.

I've heard of the slow food movement. It's big in the tourism industry, I think. Instead of Fast Food restaurants, a lot of places take pride in being Slow Food restaurants and they make a big deal out of preparing everything from scratch. I was raised in a house where everything was prepared from scratch because it's cheaper that way and my mom was more patient than many-- I hadn't had spaghetti sauce from a jar until I went to college.
I took longer than that to eat dinner, I just only took that long to make it. Spaghetti with garlic and olive oil. I resented every second I wasn't staring at that computer screen, and I brought my pasta bowl in and re-read it. I was in the middle of the charge of Cromwell's Ironside Cavalry at Naseby that broke the Royalist infantry and effectively ended the English Civil War, and my hero had been shot. I had to keep writing to find out what was going to happen! But my boyfriend was whining that he'd made dinner the last two nights in a row and was I going to tonight? And I realized I hadn't left my bed (where my computer is set up) in nearly twelve hours, and I thought... He might have a point.
But I resented him for it! Banging all the pots and pans around as I loaded the dishwasher while the spaghetti water boiled was a really good workout. Maybe I should get out more. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/eek.gif)
(btw, my hero's okay-- he's fled to Cork to recover from his wounds. I think that brings us up to about July 1645. Now he has to fall in love with his beautiful nurse so that they can get married and come back to Massachusetts...)

20,000 posts since July. That's really amazing. Good thing we haven't been betting on that one instead of number of members, because I never would have imagined we'd get so many so quickly.
