Okay, so after reading sooooooo many great things about Firefox, I finally decided to give it a whirl. Some of you may know that I've been using an older tabbed browser called Clickgarden, but it's not really supported any more after the company was sold (I think).
Clickgarden has served me well, but it's a bit slow at times and Firefox sounded like it had everything that I currently use with Clickgarden, plus more when you add in extensions. I've been playing with Firefox now for a day and so far, I'm totally loving it! I found lots of great extensions and they all install easily and work like a charm. I've got the Adblocker (which is something I had with Clickgarden and would totally miss if I had to start seeing ads again). Plus I've got the Google PR and even Alexa rankings (not that I care, but it's neat to see!). I've got a Gmail checker, the user agent switcher, and probably a few other things. I can search Google, Yahoo and a whole bunch of other engines, with the flick of a switch. I can even do a backlink check in Google, Yahoo and MSN with one click. Firefox totally rocks! Anyone have anything else neat that I should add in? IE is really gonna be in trouble I think. They better start coming out with something similar, soon! |

To me, the biggest thing is the speed. On my PC at least, it blows IE away. The browser loads much faster and displays pages much faster.

I second the vote for the Web Developer. I use it all the time.
I made a jump this morning myself. I've been using firefox for a long time, but I finally made it my default browser today. I can always open up IE to see how pages display in there. |

QUOTE I second the vote for the Web Developer. I use it all the time. I 3rd that... plus check out the TabBrowser extension - allows you to configure evey aspect of your tabs. Mouse gestures come in handy too - get a bit of getting used to but when u do you dont know how you lived without them (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Only thing I'm waiting for at this point is a port of the Orbit theme for FF1.0. Gotta have that or the experience will not be complete. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
Agree with you on the developer toolbar, Lilo! Sweeeeet. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup1.gif) --Torka (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/mf_prop.gif) |

Where do you get themes? I went to http://texturizer.net/firefox/themes/index.html but there wasn't anything there. Maybe they've all been removed so they can test their compatibility with 1.0.

I've been using FF for a month or so now and really like it. I use the tabs a lot for reading the forums on my dialup connection, opening each thread I want to look at in a new tab, then by the time I have finished scanning for threads, the first has finished loading and is ready for me to read. I like the little graphic in the tab that shows when it has finished loading.
Due to major power outaages here in NS, I am in our village library today. I must try to convince them to intall FF:) I really miss those tabs and mouse gestures. |

QUOTE(torka @ Nov 15 2004, 12:49 PM) https://update.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox --Torka (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/mf_prop.gif) Also if you click the tools dropdown, one of the options is "themes" (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I use: Bugmenot Duplicate Tab UndoCloseTab <--PRICELESS SingleWindow All-in-one-gestures I use the dev tools on another machine, which are outstanding. The biggest thing for me is the mouse gestures. They're great! The only problem I have is that i tend to try to use them in other applications...not too bad until I accidently drag something off the screen or spend 10 seconds doing it over and over trying to figure out why it won't go back... (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/embarrassed.gif) Oh and the "view source on selection" is the handiest little feature ever. |
