An article in today's NY Times says that the new MSN search is to be released tomorrow.
QUOTE Word of the introduction of the service, which will compete with Google and Yahoo, was leaked on Tuesday after the company began phoning reporters offering briefings for Wednesday. A company spokeswoman declined comment on the announcement.
... Microsoft will stress the size and completeness of its service, according to several people with knowledge of the announcement. |

Woohoo! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/appl.gif)
Thanks Qwerty. Well said OWG. I rather like their results too. Dyan: Here's a link to the MSN Search Beta tech preview area. I don't expect it to be open much longer, and it's likely to get hammered today with queries of everybody seeing how their sites stack up. |

Awesome! Competition is good. It will be one more incentive for Google to improve their results which haven't been all that great of late.

Yep, great news for the Industry. I have to agree that MSN and Yahoo! have both been more relevant than Google lately.
I look forward to their increased competition. It does our Industry good. Also, no matter how much you dislike Microsoft, they rarely put their money and resources somewhere they won't win (or at least gain market share). Looking like a good 2005 kick-off! Go MSN! |

I agree that competition is good, but my view of the way MS does "competition" isn't quite so rosy. They tend to turn themselves into the default for all machines running their OS. They're more interested in being the most convenient than the best.

I agree with you Querty - they did it to Wordperfect, Netscape and to Lotus 123 - But they will be a player, you can count on that. - SS |

Competition is always good. Sometimes even when it's a "dirty" competition. Think of it this way, if there was no competition in the area your site(s) inhabit, would your site be nearly as good for your visitors as it is?
Doubtful, as it's human nature to rest on ones laurels once you feel you've obtained your goal. Funny thing about this MSN release... I started watching it many moons ago when the first hints were dropped. And started tweaking a few sites that I knew they were visiting just to test some things. Lo and behold, now that they're ready to go Live (finally!) all of my sites in every market I'm interested in are sitting at the #1 spot for their most important phrases. Not one phrase, but at least a dozen phrases for each site. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/lol.gif) It's not because I'm good or anything. It's because my competition is still so Google-centric in their focus and have totally missed the boat in their preparation for the dawning of MSN Search. I hope they keep ignoring MSN! That's doubtful too though. I have a feeling that MSN is going to start pushing their new search product in every way imaginable. Like including their Desktop Search with an Windoze update, massive TV, Radio and Print advertising, etc, etc. It won't be a secret of the Webmaster/SEO community for long. Marketing is their forte after all. Must be something in the water around Redmond. Goodness knows their forte certainly isn't programming. PS Any guesses as to what major announcement Google is going to make between this Friday and next? (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) They always seem to announce something or the other when anyone tries to challenge their perceived dominance. |

(IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/hysterical.gif) That was pretty much my guess too Bob.
Unfortunately, half of those 10 billion seem to be partially indexed pages these days. Dunno if the bot is just trying to move too fast or what, but I'm seeing more and more of that lately. Even with plain old vanilla html sites. |

So Randy, what would you say that a Webmaster should be doing differently to do well in MSN as compared to Google?

For the record: I h8 some of their results. I think they suck (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I also love some too. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Veering ever so slightly OT, does anyone know if they are using the inktomi spamlist, to in some way detract, or markdown? Answers in a textarea to... |
