hello
I help run a promotional website with a large number (many hundreds) of news article that are keyword friendly. Google has started indexing some of our pages and our page rank is on the rise. I'm just wondering if my site could eventually get written off as spam for having too many pages? thanks |

I doubt it. Look at the size of some of the websites like Amazon and bbc.co.uk

that's a good point,
I guess the key then would be to keep some of the more important items indexed. |

Welcome to the forum, TheRyan! (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bye1.gif)
Not sure how you go about keeping the important items indexed as opposed to not indexed... The more pages you have, the better. Every page stands alone and every page has an equal opportunity to be ranked well for the words on that page. Don't worry about which pages are which... Your more important pages will naturally have more links to them because they are in the primary navigation. That will help to "boost" their importance. Just continue to build a site that's easy to navigate and puts the user's interest first and you will likely do well in the search engines too. If I may build on Scottie's post...
Content for the sake of content isn't the point. You can have gigabytes of content, and yet miss the whole point of having a website. Attracting unqualified traffic only frustrates the customer, and your efforts. You need content that easily answers customers questions, and solves their problems. Have you ever grabbed a 5 inch instuction manual, when a 1/4 inch book would have done the trick? :learn: It's not all about rankings, traffic and content. It's about the customer. I agree about content for content's sake. I know a guy who has a real estate site for Hawaii that brags about the amount of pages he has-----the catch is that about a third of them are crap. Basically he put up "printer friendly" pages of all of his link exchange pages, etc to boost his page totals. Does that really work?

LOL- it works for duplicate content... I always advice clients to exclude their printer-friendly pages to be sure the version they want to be found comes up.

Actually, you might do it the other way around. Include the printer-friendly ones cuz they're usually more search friendly, and exclude the other version.

Hi Ryan,
Your site is not going to get written off for too much content. As above, relevant content is the best content. As long as the content is optimized for its relevant information, then you should be fine. It's only when people lose site of things and attempt to capture traffic over relevancy. If you even find pages not being indexed, all you need to do is go and get a few good quality links into that page/s to get them reindexed again. Deep linking IS the sure fire method to keep pages indexed for there relevancy. I totally agree with Jill on those printer friendly versions. They are always far smoother than the original page. If the original page was so good to begin with, without any clutter, then you wouldn't require a printer friendly version! |

The only thing to watch out for is printer-friendly pages that remove the primary navigation. If someone lands on a print-friendly page and can't find their way back into the site, you'll probably lose them.
While they are leaner and cleaner for the spiders, I typically still want searchers landing on the "full" version of the page. |

Or just Use CSS to format printer-friendly pages using the same underlying code as your screen-display pages and then you don't have to worry about excluding anything. (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Are, to have too much content for it to be a concern. I wish!
