This is a graph from one of the sites I work on. (Regrettably, I'm not at liberty to give out the URL.) Notice that around September 23, referrals from Google started to climb while referrals from Yahoo (and thus MSN) started to decline to virtually 0.

I checked Yahoo today, and sure enough we've been penalized by them. A search for the site's name brings up the site's homepage as the very last result of more than 600.

1. What kind of things will trigger a site penalization in Yahoo? We've never been in SiteMatch, and the site has zero affiliate links. (There are AdSense ads on a few of the pages.) The site has been around for more than 5 years and is a very comprehensive source of information in its area.

2. How do I contact Yahoo to see why we've been penalized? I can remember seeing contact info at some point, but of course I can't find it now that I need it (IMG:http://www.highrankings.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

When I find out what happened, I'll report back here so others don't fall into this problem as well.

Thanks!

This is a longshot, but by any chance is it an online dating site?

Another guess... Are there other sites out there somewhere that have duplicate content of your site? Yahoo! seems to be really coming down on duplicate content lately. Copyscape may help you to determine if that is an issue or not.

Nah, no online dating : )

Some of the pages deep down have similar content (basically real-time products listings), but they're not the primary pages by any means.

Shane,
We seem to be having a similar problem - none of our newer pages have showed up in Yahoo's index, and the only reason our homepage is listed is because it is in Yahoo's directory. We have never had any affiliate links, have had a new site since May but with the same domain name, and there's nothing from Yahoo. Some of our pages have similar descriptions; copyscape shows no copies.
I know I have a link to some Yahoo help somewhere, I'll try and find it and post it for you.

Shane,

Here's the article that I was talking about, with some good ideas at the bottom, including a contact. How valid it is, I don't know as I haven't tried it (though I probably should!) Let us know if anything comes of it though.
