Getting Listed In Search Engines
Posted 28 September 2004 - 01:18 PM
From all I have learned, just submitting a site to google does no good, the site has to have at least one incoming link from someone out there being indexed by google. Is this still the way it is? Do submitting sites to engines really accomplish anything or is kinda old practice beacuse engines are getting smarter? If submitting to engines are necessary, which ones do i need to manually submit to and how often? Also, do any of them charge besides Yahoo Directores, which I realize isnt exactly a search engine but does help.
Thanks again, so far this board has given some pretty sound insite.

Resubmitting is another myth. Forget about it.

There's a whole thread right here on High Rankings with tons of suggestions of good free and low-cost directories to which you might want to consider submitting your site.
MHO, Yahoo Directory isn't worth it, at least not in the U.S. It's not just the $300 per year to keep your listing, although that does seem fairly pricy. But they also use your directory title and description in the regular search results, which is not necessarily A Good Thing.

submitted and gets crawled regulary. By the way there were no back links to the site.
When the search engines found it only half the pages were up and less than half the graphics.
From my experience and based on other post I have read on a lot of forums submitting is a waste of time.
Spend you time submitting to relevant directories. Don't waste your time submitting to
Just my which is worth nothing.

IMHO forget the directories, most generate zero traffic and norally won't get you spidered. Getting tageted links from high powered individual web sites much simpler and more cost effective.
