I am a newbie here so apologies if this is well documented elsewhere - I did a search on this site for Zeal and couldn't find anything

I did the Zeal test and passed and then have tried to add two non commercial sites but when i get to a category such as "community centres" or "not for profit" which you think would be non commercial it tells me I cannot add as they are commercial categories

Help/Suggestions please

Hi Spidbot,

Zeal's commercial vs. non-commercial categories are not entirely intuitive, so you're certainly not alone in your frustration.

A strategy I've used is to drill down from the homepage until I get close to the appropriate category for the site. Then I keep an eye on which paths are commercial vs. non-commercial.

You could also look up competing sites to see where they're listed.

The Zeal messageboards will likely be helpful as well.

Good luck.

Try doing a search on the name of the category you planned on placing the site in. You'll get a list of category matches. Scroll through that list looking for a cat marked with a yellow square with a slash through it. That icon indicates that the category is reserved for non-commercial sites.

Hopefully one of those will be suitable to the site you want listed.

For example, searching on community centers brings up the following list of non-commercial categories:

United States > New > Library > Education > Higher Education > Colleges & Universities > North America > United States > By State > California > Colleges & Universities, S-Z > Stanford University > Campus Life > Community Centers
United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > Asian American > Community & Culture > Community Centers
  United States > New > Personal > Religion & Belief > Religions A-Z > Faiths & Beliefs I-L > Judaism > Jewish Life > Community Centers
Recycle Bin >Culture & IssueNO SUBMISSIONS! > Religion > Faiths & Beliefs > Judaism > Jewish Community Centers
  United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > Asian American > Community & Culture > Community Centers > States A-D
  United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > Asian American > Community & Culture > Community Centers > States F-M
  United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > Asian American > Community & Culture > Community Centers > States N-W
  United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > European American > Central Europe > German > Community & Culture
  United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > Native American > Nations & Tribes > Northeast > Iroquois Confederacy > Mohawk > Community
United States > New > Library > Society > Community & Cultures > Ethnic Communities > European American > Eastern Europe > Russian American

Thanks Haystack and Qwerty for the quick response I thought New Zealand was the only place awake at this time of day :)

I seem to have been doing it roughly right - the problem was that there seems to be nothing listed for New Zealand, so I guess my other question is

How do I get a category created? I'll have a look at the Zeal messageboard as well

It's 2pm on the 21st for me. How's the 22nd looking so far?

Here's a link to category management info at Zeal:

Hope this helps.
