This is so obvious I hesitate to mention it.... but then it's the obvious ones we often miss.

I've just transferred a site from one large host to another. The large ISPs often have newsletters or other sales/customer publications and are crying out for editorial - especially testimonials/case studies... especially, especially... if they are believably favourable!

I've submitted a piece about my site, what it is and what it does, what I like about the host, what I don't like about the host, and how I'm using their extra facilities (like .net and advanced web stats).

The editor has just emailed to say it is exactly what he needs and he is clearing the decks in next month's edition for my article.

There are three points....

1. Obviously this is a one-shot munition in your publicity arsenal

2. It is not going to make a significant PR impact if the ISP is not a big one (this should reach quite a large audience, it's Hostway)

3. For me it's not really a target readership, just a readership... but for you guys in the SEO business, a readership of a hundred thousand* site owners/managers....? You tell me.

* they claim "300,000 sites hosted" So, 100,000 current?

PS. I'll let you know what impact, if measurable, I get when it's published.

Hello Alastair, I know you are a bit concern about how obvious it seems, but some of us need reminding of these techniques all the time not to mention all the new comers to the forum who aren’t aware of them.

Writing an article relating to my website is one of the things I've been promising myself to do for a few weeks now. And a lot of websites are screaming out for them.

One of the things that struck me was that if I could write an article in a form that can be easily modified time and time again. Then I could submit the article to one website and then change it, to avoid duplication, and submit it to another website and so on.

The only problem here is that I don't consider myself an article writer and I need to put my website back up. I took it down because I no longer provide some of the services that where present on it.

I don't think it's obvious at all!

Excellent idea, Alastair! :(
