Changing Ips Does What To Rankings?
Posted 07 September 2004 - 09:23 PM
I have a site that has ranked well for certain keywords in the past. Well, I was hit lately with email bombs which shut down the server, and I had to move to a dedicated server just to keep the site up. This required a change in IP. So my question is this...
Am I hurt from moving away from a strong ranking IP?
Will this new IP retain this high SE ranking when my site gets respidered?
Or does changing my IP make a difference?
What are your thoughts on this?

Your IP won't affect your ranking in the search engines, so don't worry about it.

Can you or anyone tell me though if my search engine rankings can get hurt if my site was down for 4-5 days, and a bot tried to access my site during that time? I definitely have dropped in Yahoo since my down time. I'm trying to figure out why it happened. Hopefully things will improve.

Dropped in rankings or dropped out of the index all together?
If you just dropped in rankings, then I doubt it's due to downtime.
