Jill's words (above) set me thinking...
Of the 4 or 5 billion pages that Google has in its index (and please - let's not start that particular argument again!), what percentage would have a high PR of say 7 or more?
Surely it wouldn't take much PhD programming power to filter out any site that hits the PR7 trip wire and subject it to special algorithmic scrutiny for link farming or link mongering??
And then perhaps move the trip point to PR6 and redo the process...
Just a thought...

But I think it is more a theoretical aspect to dicuss this point and it is pretty clear that we all agree in the need of human eye to find the right criteria.
And Jill, everybody wants to live, breath and earn a looooot of money on this earth... so if I had a PR7/8 page (or even more :halo: ) I would do just the same to get the most out of it - internet is so fast and so fast changing - why loose time when you never know what might come tomorrow (...november 2003 ) Not everybody is studying the SEs with statistics and being prepared for the next change of mind of Google...

Some of us just want to enjoy what we do, make enough money to pay the bills and be proud of what we accomplish. Everyone isn't motivated by making a looooooot of money, I'm glad to say.

of cause you are right, cause I think - as in every job you may do - you are as good as much as you enjoy it. and even more in SEO. if you don't enjoy there will be no energy to find out things and to create a great site. so, I am with you.

I do get tired of seeing good sites become overrun with ads, but I also figure they have to pay the bills... you can do it in a tasteful way, though!

it is always better to do it in a tasteful way - if you really want to. and one should for the above reason.
