I found this article How To Choose Keywords Before they Skyrocket in Popularity at searchengineguide.

It looks interesting but I wondered if it was a 'one trick pony'. What I mean is; it gives a very good example of choosing some video store keywords, before they skyrocket, but I cant think of other examples away from the entertainment arena?

I haven't had that much time to ponder it over and was wondering if anybody else has read it and thought about it yet?

You made me look!

I saw that title in Robert's newsletter earlier today and was going to check it out.

I thought the article made a good point- that by knowing the industry, you can forecast some keyphrases that may be strong in the near future. It's advice more aimed at business owners than SEO's, IMO.

To really maximize those "future" keyphrases, you would want to try to get others to link to your page using them; otherwise when the competition wises up, you won't keep your top ranking.

A more useful variation on the theme, courtesy of Dr. Elwyn Jenkins, aka "Microdoc":
Memeword Marketing

That article by John Alexander could have come straight out of the "Trafficology" newsletter.

I will often do a variation of this to use as a quick check of google visiting my site.
