The G3 Group has released a set of free webmaster tools. Here's a press release about them.

They're located at http://www.instantposition.com/ . I tried their SE saturation spider, and it's a lot like Marketleap's tool, but it presents the data as a 3D clickable graph.

Hey Qwerty--thanks for that! I went ahead and signed up (I know, I shoulda read it thoroughly first, but I don't have the time right now).
From a glance it seems interesting. Thanks again!

Oh, you signed up. I just tried the other stuff. Good... now you can tell us all if it's worthwhile.

Thanks!

Did the free sign up and quickly played around.
I'll have to revisit soon to really examine it.

Well, I took a look around and I'm not sure I'm all that impressed. I know tools vary from site to site, but these seem kinda askew. I entered my friends URL in the "site readiness tool" just to see what it'd say and it never read the description tag--even said it didn't exist.

We had a thread on here not too long ago about the highest keyword density percentage needed. If memory is serving, the average guesstimate by all those involved came to 9% max. The tool said to aim for 35%-40%! I am gonna keep messing around with it, but I can't say I'd use these particular tools all that much.

Maybe I'm just testy cuz it's lunch time and I am starving. :naughty:

40%?? I can't imagine writing a logical page in which 4 out of every 10 words is a keyword. I'd believe it if they said 4% (I'd say that's a little low as a general rule, but it's better than 40), so maybe it's a typo.

Anyway, I don't really believe in keyword density ratios. It depends on what you're writing about.

Know what? I over stated.....look at this....

<Your keyword density in the TITLE is 14.00%.
Your keyword density in the title is too low. Increase the amount of times your keyword phrase appears in the title and aim for 25% - 35%>

I don't necessarily go for percentages either. I have learned to read it out loud and see if it makes sense and go from there. I just thought this number to be a little high.

After lunch I'll go and check out some more stuff.

If anyone out there has tried these tools, could you fill me in as to why they don't recognize any of the description tags?

I tried a coupla different sites, different pages and everything but it stays the same. Any ideas? :naughty:

That's why eyeballs work better than tools most of the time!

You might try using their meta tag generator to see if it creates the tag in some way different from what you've got.

If that's not the case, you can probably attribute it to them releasing the tool before they'd fully debugged it.

Thanks, Fred! For a few minutes I thought I was missing something (I actually went in to the source codes to make sure they were there---DUH!).

Looks like these tools are not so hot.

I do agree with Jill that things like this can never replace carefully going through your code yourself; I generally just use them to check out other sites quickly.

Qwerty, that's what I do, too. I just play around with different tools that I happen to come across. Some give interesting info, some don't.

I, too, agree with Jill, insofar as the "eyeball tool" --but i still like to play with them anyway!
