Has anyone on here ever installed BIND? I have messed around with it but haven't had much luck with it. I was just wondering if anyone has been able to get it to work right.

Oh, a few hundred times. lol.gif Always on *nix/Apache servers though, so if we're talking a Windows box I have no clue.

What environment are we working with? There are some Win folks around here too that I'm sure could help out if that's what we're talking about.

Actually, I wasn't even aware that there is a (binary / compiled) version of BIND for Windows...

Every time I have seen a Winhozed server in action, it was using the MS DNS software.

If anyone can provide illumination, I would certainly be appreciative.

[Disclaimer: I am not and don't pretend to be a Windows server expert.] lol.gif

You can run Bind or even Bind-PE (Personal Edition) on a Windows box. Not that I would ever try it myself, but you can.

To give you an sneak peak as to how difficult the configuration issues can be when you try to meld two basically incompatible systems together, check out this DevShed post.

Not something I would do. It's easier, and better in my very biased opinon, to simply set up an old computer running *nix and connect it to the home network.

Now you know why I don't work on Windoze boxes. lol.gif

Seriously, the grapevine says that the Bind-PE version is supposed to be an easier install, but I have no firsthand knowledge. But I think it only supports one domain too. Just in case that fits what you're trying to accomplish.
