Can someone share some definitiions of the industry language? Spiders crawling, meta tags, etc.

thanks
Trish

Oh, I got a notification of a response to my other post from Denyse but could not access it. Is that because of the one email thing? How can I get the message?

thanks again

Regarding the response to your previous post, you should be able to just click the URL inside the message and that will bring you to the latest post in that thread.

For definitions, you can try The Search Engine Dictionary. I don't always completely agree with every definition I find there, but I still think it's a good source. For example:

spider / spyder

A browser-like program that forms part of a search engine. Its task is to "surf" the web by following links from one page to the next and from one site to the next. It collects information from the sites it visits and that information is stored in the search engine's database. For detailed discussions on spiders, the other components of search engines, spider names etc., please refer to the Search Engine Yearbook.

I think I saw a glossary of terms on the SEMPO site...ah yes here it is:

Search Engine Marketing Glossary

I believe Danny Sullivan had a lot of input in the glossary, so it should be pretty trustworthy! :P

If you find definitions in the Search Engine Dictionary that you don't agree with, you can suggest changes - or suggest a new term to be added - and get a link back to your site in return for keeping the dictionary accurate.

Also, the new MarketingSherpa Buyer's Guide will have a short glossary of industry terms (which I helped put together :whip:).

I just realized that Andre had quoted Qwerty in his post, and wasn't saying that top stuff himself...duh on me!

Looks like a good resource for definitions. Always a tricky thing because many in this industry can't seem to agree on even simple things such as what "search engine optimization" means!
