This is really not my area here. Jill said on another thread that a "noindex" tag is needed for spiderability for mouseovers in javascript.

Now I have to be able to explain this to the webmaster so we can do this. Can anyone s-l-o-w-l-y explain how to do this? I'd appreciate any help y'all could give, as again, this isn't really my area.

thanks!

Hi Deb,

By asking about "NOINDEX" and "Javascript Mouseover" I'm presuming that you dont want thae search engines to follow the links on the page, Would this be correct?

I sure hope I didn't say that! Because it would be completely silly!

I probably said the noscript tag. If I said noindex, please point me to it so I can fix it.

And yes, if you use javascript menus, it's a good idea to also put your links into a noscript tag.

Hmmmm...........maybe I read it wrong or I asked it wrong. I need the spiders to read EVERYTHING. I did one of those spider simulators for a test page we are working on and the Java stuff doesnt get read.

Then, when I saw the post by Jill, I thought I hit the jackpot. Can anyone clarify? Man, I really thought I had it, too.

Hi Deb,

Its a bit techy this but here goes. Some where on the page there should be some JavaScript tags;

<script ....... </SCRIPT>

underneath these tags you could put the following

<NOSCRIPT>
some normal html code like <A HREF="thepage.html">the page</A>
</NOSCRIPT>

I know you asked for it to be explained s-l-o-w-l-y but was'nt sure if you still wanted this info anymore, after all said above.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Air Dog!

Yeah, I still needed it explained. That was MY boo-boo, not Jill's.

So all I do is insert ,<noscript> and its all good? Geez, sometimes these things seem sooo much more difficult than they really are, huh?

Thanks again....I may be back w/some more questions.

Deb, take a look at the source code on my home page and you'll see the noscript tag in action.

You can also just put plain old text links at the bottom of the page to the same pages the mouseover links point to. That's a pretty standard practice, and very easy to implement. You can just create a footer as a separate page that you bring in as a server-side include.

Well, true to my word--I'm back. After implementation, the entire page disappeared with the exception of the java stuff! How or why, I have no idea. Anybody got any ideas as to what the h*ll I did wrong? ;)

My web guy said he did--then he said that all the text turned red, indicating a problem, then disappeared.
