I was somewhat surprised at that press release also. PR and communication doesn't appear to be a strong point of SEM(arketing)P(rofessional)O.

Ironic, really...

I don't believe that press release was put out by SEMPO but simply a member, wasn't it?

At any rate, it appears that SEMPO has responded, via Danny, here.

Here's a snippet:

QUOTE(Danny Sullivan)
Barbara's stipend was approved on May 15 and she began drawing it on that date. She began taking it because she also assumed a second hat, that of acting executive director, in addition to her role as president.

I'm told that this was going to be announced at the meeting Monday even before Mike's article raised the issue.

I'm trying to work out how I got so misinformed at the London SES meeting of SEMPO, where I understood that Barbara was to be seeking a UK representative.

Mike was asked to address that meeting, and that, for me, was about the most credible thing that SEMPO had done to attract me personally as a member. Mike had delayed in joining for the exact same reasons that I had, (Where's the benefit? Where is my money going?), and had made the decision to join for many of the reasons I was strongly considering joining (SEMPO is still young enough that it is the people who join, support, help direct it that will actually help decide what it does for us all. As OWG so rightly says, those who haven't paid the piper can hardly moan about the tunes he plays at the behest of those who did).

I'm feeling mislead, and possibly even deceived. What happened to the selection of a UK representative? How was it that the selection did not select the only UK person who was deemed important enough (or the only one asked who could be bothered) to address the UK contingent as SES London?

Bill, guess you missed SEMPO Questions and Answers.

We also have a few other questions out to them, which I believe they are in the process of answering.

There's another closed thread here too, with some heated debate. I forget where it is, but a search for sempo should bring it up.

The closed thread I believe Jill was referring to is this one.
