I inherited the .com's, they have been up and running for ages, but my target market is purely UK based.

So the risk here is that in the transition somewhere Google drops you and then never elevates the .co.uk to the same status as you presently enjoy with your .com.


There is no risk.

Unless of course, Google doesn't give as much weight to a .co.uk site as a .com but I don't think this is true. If you want your visitors to come from Google UK more than you want them to come from Google US, then it's the perfect solution and shouldn't be a problem at all.

I agree. Google.co.uk has those radio buttons to choose between searching "the web" or "pages from the UK". There's nothing analagous to that (pages from the US) at google.com.
