Jill, you paid for the year of support (which was worthless since we modded it up and they won't support mods) and you paid extra for the link removal- I think it was $60 and $100 though. It's gone up.
I definitely agree, it's worth every penny.

phpBB is also worth every penny.
Okay, okay, I really don't have anything against Invision. The fact is, I don't like the default version of either forum but with some modding, both of them can make excellent forums.
I just chose phpBB because I liked the fact that it is free, open source, has tons of mods (and of course you can make your own mods), and has a strong support base. Invision is also an excellent forum though...

Funny how people get really attached to their forum software!
I'm a real supporter of Invision after having used this one for awhile.

Yes, I agree. It's funny how people will get attached to things and then become very biased (and I admit that I am no exception to this).
Anyway, both of them are good forums and I guess that it is just a personal preference. I must say that Invision does have a nice "professional" look to it but you can always modify the phpbb styles. Perhaps I should write my own forum software someday...

If you were wanting to move the forum to a new account under a new domain name how hard is it to copy the database over? Meaning if you started a new hosting account and wanted to move the board over to that account can you just copy the files over and have the hosting company copy the MySQL database over?

you can use the MySQL Dump command to backup and the MySQL Import command to import the dump file to the new server.
an alternative would be if you had access to both servers you could do the same thing with a MySQL client. And of course you can have the forum on one server and the database on another.
