I was just looking at one of my web sites and was pleased to see that it has a google page rank of 5. However, I noticed the pages within the site have no rank at all.
Here, in these forums, I notice that all pages, even a brand new thread gets a page rank equal to the forum home page.
What causes this, is it anything to be concerned about and is there anything that can be done to improve page ranking inside the site?
Inquiring minds want to know :stunned:

Firstly nothing to be concerned about. Most of the times, the toolbar is unable to show the actual pagerank of a page.
The pagerank for new pages in the forum is a "guestimate" by the toolbar.

Question for Michael-
Do your interior pages show up in searches? If so, Farhan is right. The toolbar is just a guesstimate.
Sometimes no interior PR is an indication that there is a technical problem with the site and that Googlebot may not be finding the pages.
More often than not, it's just a toolbar fluke.

I was just surfing around Google's site (investigating Adwords) and several of its own pages had gray PR bars in the toolbar.
So.........

As far as making sure your internal pages get a pagerank, I'd make sure they're internally linked from the homepage. Put your sitemap somewhere that's easy for the spiders to find and make sure you have text links. The site I'm working on didn't use text links and had the site map off to the side of the page instead of the bottom and seemed the pages were hard to find. After the programmer moved them around, our internal pages started showing pr. Hope that helps!

Here's what often happens with new pages...
You can put up a brand new page of an existing page, and it will usually show a 'phantom' PageRank, that is the guesstimate that the others have mentioned.
Once the page has been spidered, but before it's in the index (and even sometimes when it is in the index) it will often show no PageRank or a PR0. Doesn't mean anything other than that the page is just in the process of being added and they haven't quite figured out it's true PageRank yet.
Once the page is in for real, it will then show it's true PageRank.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the sigh of relief. I checked a few pages to ensure they are indexed. For example, I searched for - ecco lightbar - (w/o quotes) and two different pages from my site came up first in google. So I know the pages are indexed. I was just concerned since the pages showed no rank.
Now, I'm just working on making the content much more SE friendly.
ciao

Give it a few weeks and I'm sure it will show pagerank. I see this all the time with my new newsletter that come on line. I don't surf much with the toolbar, but on the occasions when I have, this is the exact phenomenon that I witness. Since I have absolutely NO fear that my newsletter pages would ever be penalized, I know that it's just the way they do things.
Good reason to always do things on the up and up. You never, ever have to worry that you're penalized and will always know that whatever you're seeing is either a Google glitch or something else that's out of your control.
