Hi,

I just read one of Jill's newsletters on paid inclusion but I feel the landscape has changed since it was written.
  • LookSmart/MSN relationship has changed
  • Google is not powering Yahoo!
  • Ask Jeeves has announced an end to their program
  • Yahoo switched to Inktomi?
  • ????
IF anyone can give me the latest primer on how I can use paid inclusion to make sure we are indexed in Yahoo! and MSN, I would appreciate it!

I would also like to know who is the best vendor in purchasing pay-for-inclusion? PositionTech?

thanks,
Craig

I'll tell you the truth, Craig that I myself do not currently see any value at all in paid inclusion. The only way I would participate in Overture Site Match was if a client absolutely had a bunch of pages they wanted indexed but the search engine crawlers could in no way get to them. I usually do not find that to be the case however and have been able to get many dynamic pages, e-commerce pages, etc. indexed and ranked well without PFI. Build a site map or maps, make sure there are not too many parameters being passed in the URLs, etc. and you are in.

Besides, I still don't trust the Overture PFI program yet.

For me, I'm just letting everything expire - Inktomi and now Teoma, and will wait and see what happens with Yahoo/Overture.

Heck, I even cancelling Yahoo directory renewals due to the fact that they will use the directory info in the SERPs for the home page listing as opposed to my title tag and snippets of html content. For me, everything inclusion wise is free again. Yeah. :whip:

I think I recently updated a pay-for-play article in the newsletter and put it up in my articles section. Try this one on for size:

It seems that everywhere we turn these days in the search engine marketing world, we are constantly hearing the phrases pay-for-inclusion (PFI), pay-for-performance (PFP) and pay-per-click (PPC). Here is a quick primer to explain what each of those programs means.

Not being biased at all  but Priority Submit is a good way to go, especially since we offer SEO discounts on PFI services. For your info the Site Match discount is 7.5% for SEO customers, both on the review fee and the CPC component.

Plus we cover over 50 PFI programs, not just two (Overture and Ask).

There is also some new news to hit regarding MSN. Stay tuned.

Cheers
David

My understanding is that MSN will be dropping trusted feeds.....very soon. We'll have to wait and see if they relaunch them under the Microsoft Search brand.

MSN has dropped from 1st July both Overture Site Match and Site Match Xchange results. This will reduce traffic generated from both the paid inclusion programs substantially.

Thanks for the article Jill. It gives a good summary of what can be done.

Correction, the discount is now 15% on the SiteMatch PFI program for SEO customers, via prioritysubmit.com

Just trying to make this as affordable as we can. :halo:

You can discount it all you want, Dave, but it still a sucky program no matter how you slice it! smile.gif

Hi Jill, hey ... better than no discount at all and having to pay full price.

So if you are or considering using Site Match, you know where to go, so as not to pay full price.

Cheers
David
