Hi everyone!

Tried searching for this on the forum, but can't find any mention...

Is it possible that my site is ranking poorly because I'm hosted by a company that has made SEO no-no's?

Basically, do the search engines care what IP or server your domain is hosted on?

Thanks in advance! :applause:

They don't really care about IP's that much Akuma. So many sites are out there on shared IP's these days that it simply wouldn't make sense for them to penalize hundreds or thousands of sites for the sins of one who happened to share the IP.

That said, there may well be something to the notion of the search engines looking at IP's to help identify link farms. But if they are, they're not very good at it based upon some of the stuff I see still out there.

Thanks Randy! Was a bit worried since my webhost is actually running an MLM company...

To be safe, I'd look for a new webhost... but that's just a personal thing. I don't think it will affect your SEO campaigns but you could suddenly find your e-mail blacklisted if they are sending out e-mail spam.

Good point, Scottie. Thanks!

At least I didn't make the mistake of letting my webhost register my domain for me. If something does go wrong, I should be able to plant my site somewhere else real quick... :aloha:

It's unlikely, but if they are a really, really bad host that hosts a ton of spam sites, then yes, it is possible that your site would be lumped in with them and thought to also be bad/spam.
