I got the same thing and was surprised that Jupiter would be sending out spam these days since I never opted in for anything like that.
Probably you got that because you're on the SearchDay or Search Engine Report mailing lists. Occasionally notices about other Jupiter content goes out on these. It's really infrequent (one or two every two months or so), and the newsletter terms do say it may happen. I know Jupiter is really sensitive about spam -- they definitely don't buy lists to send to people.
FYI, as for the reports, Jupiter Research is a different part of Jupitermedia than Search Engine Watch, so I'm not connected with them. I think they are primarily aimed toward large companies trying to understand some overview information about search engine marketing, some overview stats to justify budgeting and so on.

It seemed to me (and I could be wrong) that Jupiter sent those emails out to old lists, perhaps. Like from when I was on ClickZ lists and SearchDay. Hard to believe I could get 3 or 4 just from being a paid SEW subscriber. And wouldn't being a paid member prevent you from receiving that kinda stuff?
Had I just received one, I would have not thought much about it. And in fact, may have even felt that it was sent personally to me since it might be something I was interested in. But the multiple ones was awfully suspicious.

Well, if you are on different lists, then you would get more than one -- that's a problem they haven't overcome. But if you're no longer on these lists, you really shouldn't have still gotten them -- I mean, you're supposed to be off the list
You will still get occasional emails if you are a paid member. As I said, these are really, really limited -- and they run them by me, first. We tested it very carefully about two years ago, and literally no one complained. The hard thing is that some of the paid members may want to know about the stuff, so that's why it goes out.
I'm passing on the thread to someone high at Jupiter -- they definitely don't want people to feel like they're getting spam mail.

Perhaps conference registrations under different email addresses might have been other lists they used?

When I am already a paid member and am still sent a message inviting me to become a paid member (just got one of those), something tells me that Jupiter needs to do a better job with consolidating their email databases. When such issues happen with credit card companies, somehow I am not surprised -- besides the letters go to the trash can anyway -- but when an econtent company does it, it is more of a problem, in my opinion, because I DO anticipate meaningful emails from Jupiter...You will still get occasional emails if you are a paid member.
But do not get me wrong, I am addicted to emails from Jupiter :-)
