A friend and I are making an seo resource site. We are requesting people email us articles or point us to links. We will to whatever site the articles author wants. We would like link to our site back but it by no means required the new site is not up yet but will be shortly. This is a pet project but we have already had some related pr 7 sites say they will link to us and we will actively try to get the site in front of people. IF anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Email me articles or post links...any comments would be helpful. We are looking for all things Seo mostly articles but also tools. Anyone can send me an article or blurb or tool as long as the info is sound. Once the site is up I will post it here for review and thoughts. Thanks guys....and gals

If its a good information resource, give me a yell when its up, I have no problems linking to it from my SEO homepage. Its only a PR6, but substantial. A link back would be great also.

We will link back to every site we get an article from...simple as that....well as long as the site has no spam problems but that should not be an issue if you are writing good seo articles

Well, I got a few articles but I know some of the forum members have some good articles they have written. This is a free way to advertise your expertise. So hit me with those articles....We will have a submission form on the site for articles but I am trying to gather as many as possible for the launch.

quick question about duplicate content before I search the forum....since these articles will be in circulation on the net...will we get anything ranking wise out of running them? I know we will get user benifit which is most important but just wondering if we will throw a red flag at google for running guest articles, or if we will get an pr boost from an archive of them...any help would be great

Mate, articles don't really fall under the duplicate rule because they are listed under all different sites, different page layouts and designs, etc. The bulk of the information is obviously the same, but the rest of the page that it resides upon is what makes the difference in that aspect. You would be hard pressed to see any sort of duplicate content penalty for an article. The pages would have to be extremely close that the articles are listed upon from one site to another.

Archived content rules. You won't go wrong with it. As for any sort of PR impact, unless sites are linking too the content, then you won't see anything out of the ordinary with PR indifference.

Anthony, there's no such thing as a duplicate content penalty.

And ghergich, you are correct that the articles may or may not show up in the search results because they contain the same content that is up on other sites. Anthony is right that the different layouts often helps to curb that, but it's not an absolute. Some articles will show and others won't. It helps if you have a popular site...they tend to show up more often on those pages.

Yeah thanks for all the articles and info...I will include a lot of them and of course write my own. I think its good for users so Im not to worried about the SEO of it...but from what I hear it will be fine...otherwise it would be hard to find an ap newstory since they are all duplicates...well most. Keep the articles coming

Probably the wrong choice of words.....duplicate content in general. SE's keep one, drop the rest...thanks for pointing that out Jill.

The duplicated content is not normally(unless a lenghty complaint is lodged) dropped from the index it is simply buried so deep a submarine would have trouble finding it. Compounding the duplication problem is the fact that first up means nothing. One would think SEs would keep the first up and bury the copier, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Been there!

Steve sardell is probably right, It do have a small effect when it comes to duplicate content,

I have seen in many forums people's site have been PR0ed by google, They don't do anything bad, NO SEO NO-Nos, But "plagiarism" Pure plagiarism, they just copy completely an other site and put all the information on their site, I am not saying this from 1 or 2 examples but from many many examples i have analyzed,

There seem to be some sort of filter in google detecting duplicate contents especially duplicate sites, I think google can detect these types and do give a Pagerank 0 to those sites,

I don't think having many duplicate articles will cause problem but plagiarism of sites might cause problems, Just a word though i may be wrong ,

When it comes to duplicate articles I agree with steve, It gets buried deep inside, I don't know how much value is given to that,

thanks for all the comments. I will let everyone know how well the duplicate articles do with ranking. I am sure they will rank well as long as we have plenty of origional content of our own...also so thanks to everyone who submitted articles.
